Recommended FREE Software for Sizing Photos for Posting Website Content
GIMP is the GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a freely distributed piece of software for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring. It works on many operating systems, in many languages.
In our opinion the GIMP is as good as professional proprietary software costing nearly $1000.
The GIMP is FREE. Download it here.
Sizing Photos for Website Content
To re-size your digital photo or digital image file open it in the GIMP.
From the Menu at the top of the window choose Image then Scale Image.
In the Scale Image window type the Width(max 1024 pixels) you wish to re-size the image to then click in the Height box. GIMP will automatically calculate the height proportionately. Click the Scale button to let GIMP re-size your image proportionately.
Next save your re-sized image to a new filename so that you maintain the original image in it’s original size. Choose File then Save As from the menu then browse to a folder on your computer where you wish to store the new file.
Choose 65% from the Quality Slider for optimum quality/compression for web site use then Save.
Done! Ready for uploading to your website.
